Conventional tillage in the High Atlas Mountains Tidili

Plowing moist soil, in particular, generates increased compaction that prevents water percolation and makes the anoxique1 medium. It removes the superficial layer of humus (clay-humus complexes) and thus exposes the soil to erosion (which can be very important on fragile soils such as loamy soils developed on Loess). This causes a significant decrease in the quality and quantity of the organic material surface. He exposes the soil to dehydration and solar ultraviolet.

In continental climate (temperate cold), to a depth not exceeding 20 cm, plowing aerates the soil. It mixes crop residues, solid manure, lime and mineral fertilizers to the land while introducing oxygen. In doing so, it reduces nitrogen losses by volatilization, accelerates mineralization and increases the available nitrogen in the short term for the decomposition of organic matter.

Conventional tillage in the High Atlas Mountains

farmers have become born-again soil-saving conservationists. Plowing may open soil to erosion, but it also loosens, warms and dries the ground for planting. Besides, plowed fields look clean and neat
- traditional evidence of hard work. But that evidence has gotten expensive. As usual, economics is the main motivating force: not plowing has become cheaper than plowing.

climate 2020 : The Basics of Climate Change

Climate change ensuing from associate degree increasing concentration of Greenhouse Gases (GHGs) within the atmosphere attributable to the utilization of fossil fuels and different human activities has become a serious worldwide concern. it's significantly therefore for Asian nation as a result of global climate change is move an immediate threat to its water security, food security and energy security. The country's vulnerability to such adverse impacts is probably going to extend significantly within the coming back decades because the average international temperature, that redoubled by zero.6 °C over the past century, is projected to extend additional by one.1 to 6.4 °C by the top of the present century.

climate 2020 The Basics of Climate Change
climate 2020  The Basics of Climate Change
A Task Force on amendment|global {climate change|global global climate change|temperature change|temperature change (TFCC) was started by the look Commission of Asian nation in Gregorian calendar month 2008 with the read to require stock of country's scenario in regard to climate change; to contribute to the formulation of a climate change policy that will assist the govt in achieving sustained economic process by befittingly addressing climate change threats therefore on guarantee water security, food security and energy security of the country; and to suggest policy measures for promoting massive scale Adaptation and Mitigation efforts, raising awareness of assorted stakeholders; and enhancing the capacities of relevant national establishments.
Drawing upon the most effective out there experience within the country, the Task Force started nine operating teams (WGs) comprising some forty specialists. every WG headed by a TFCC member was assigned  to appear into some specific aspects relevant to the TFCC mandate. supported the inputs of the on top of WGs and also the deliberations of the Task Force in its numerous conferences, the TFCC Secretariat has ready a 76-page report that takes stock of Pakistan's standing as a GHG electrode, brings out its key vulnerabilities to global climate change, recommends applicable adaptation and mitigation policy measures, and highlights numerous current and planned activities that implicitly address the problems of global climate change. The report identifies main objectives for Pakistan's global climate change policy, reviews the country's existing structure structure for addressing problems with global climate change, and recommends measures to boost its ability to face the challenge. It takes cognizance of the prevailing capability of assorted national and international organizations within the country and identifies Pakistan's desires for international cooperation in terms of capability building, technology transfer and financial backing for major Adaptation and Mitigation activities. Salient points of the report square measure summarised here.
Objectives of global climate change Policy of Asian nation
The report identifies the essential components of Pakistan's global climate change policy for the close to medium term future. Salient among those square measure to:

- Assist the govt for property economic process by befittingly addressing the challenges posed  by global climate change, particularly the threats to Pakistan's water, food and energy security;
- Contribute to the international efforts to envision global climate change by dominant
Pakistan's own GHG emissions to the most extent feasible;
- facilitate to extend the country's space beneath forest cover;

- Minimize the risks to the country's population and economy arising from the expected increase in frequency and intensity of utmost events: floods, droughts, tropical storms etc.;

- facilitate to extend the capability of national organizations and to create full use of recent developments in science & technology for effectively addressing climate change; and

- determine want for international cooperation and support for addressing problems with global climate change.
Pakistan's standing as a GHG electrode

Pakistan's total GHG emissions in 2008 amounted to 309 million tonnes (mt) of greenhouse gas (CO2) equivalent, comprising concerning fifty four dioxide, one year alkane, September 11 inhalation general anesthetic and one hundred and twenty fifth different gases. the most important contributor is that the energy sector with five hundredth share, followed by the agriculture sector (39% share), industrial processes (6% share) and different activities (5% share).

Pakistan could be a tiny GHG emitter: It contributes solely concerning zero.8% of the overall international GHG emissions. On per capita basis, Asian nation with one.9 tonnes per capita GHG emissions stands at level that corresponds to concerning tierce of the globe average, twenty percent of the common for Western Europe and one tenth of the per capita emissions within the U.S., putt it at one hundred and thirty fifth place within the world ranking of nations on the premise of their per capita GHG emissions.

 Past and Expected Future environmental condition Changes over Asian nation

During the last century, average annual temperature over Asian nation redoubled by zero.6 °C, in agreement with the worldwide trend, with the temperature increase over northern pakistan|Pakistan|Islamic Republic of Asian nation|West Pakistan|Asian country|Asian nation} being more than over southern Pakistan (0.8 °C versus zero.5 °C). Precipitation over Asian nation additionally redoubled on the common by concerning twenty five the troubles.

Studies supported the ensemble outputs of many international Circulation Models (GCMs) project that the common temperature over Asian nation can increase within the vary one.3-1.5 °C by 2020s, 2.5-2.8 °C by 2050s, and 3.9-4.4 °C by 2080s, appreciate a rise in average international surface temperature by two.8-3.4 °C by the flip of the twenty first century. Precipitation is projected to extend slightly in summer and reduce in winter with no vital amendment in annual precipitation. what is more, it's projected that global climate change can increase the variability of monsoon rains and enhance the frequency and severity of utmost events like floods and droughts.
Major global climate change connected considerations

The most necessary global climate change potential threats to Asian nation square measure known as:

- redoubled variability of monsoon;

- fast recession of Hindu Kush-Karakoram-Himalayan (HKH) ice masss threatening water inflows into the Indus System (IRS); reduction in capability of natural reservoirs attributable to glacier soften and rise in snow line;

- redoubled risks of floods and droughts;

- redoubled siltation of major dams leading to bigger loss of reservoir capacity;

- Severe water-stressed and heat-stressed conditions in arid and semi-arid regions, resulting in reduced agriculture productivity and power generation;

- redoubled upstream intrusion of saline water within the Indus delta, adversely touching coastal agriculture, mangroves and breeding grounds of fish; and

- Threat to coastal areas as well as town of urban center attributable to water level rise and redoubled cyclonic activity attributable to higher ocean surface temperatures.
The on top of threats cause major considerations for Asian nation in terms of its Water Security, Food Security and Energy Security. another global climate change connected considerations of Asian nation square measure known as: Increase in deforestation; loss of biodiversity; redoubled health risks (heat strokes, pneumonia, protozoal infection and different vector-borne diseases) and risks to different vulnerable ecosystems (e.g. rangelands, degraded lands, mountainous areas etc.).

Mitigation and Adaptation Measures :

The Task Force report recommends variety of measures to deal with each Mitigation and Adaptation aspects of global climate change. It additionally identifies numerous current activities and planned actions envisaged beneath the look Commission's Medium Term Development Framework 2005-10 and Vision 2030 that implicitly represent Pakistan's plans and actions towards mitigation and adaptation efforts. Salient counseled still as current and planned measures square measure listed below:

Mitigation :

Pakistan could be a tiny GHG electrode and, like different developing countries, its emissions square measure guaranteed to increase significantly because the country climbs over the event ladder and strives to supply adequate quantity of energy to support its growing socio-economic organic process desires. Still, as a accountable member of the international community, Asian nation would love to contribute to the worldwide GHG mitigation efforts while not compromising on its basic minimum energy and food desires per its socio- economic organic process needs, energy security issues, and monetary and technological constraints.

Energy :

Ongoing and set upned Actions: Energy Security Action Plan 2005-2030 envisages massive roles for hydropower, renewable energy technologies (in specific, windmills), nuclear energy and foreign fossil fuel in future energy supplies; one windmill of six MW capability created operational whereas work is afoot on eighteen alternative energy comes of fifty MW capability each; construction of third nuclear energy plant is in progress; approval given for construction of four,500 MW Bhasha dam; agreement finalized with Asian nation|Persia|Asian country|Asian nation} for construction of a gas pipeline from Iran to Asian nation with capability to move 750 million cubic  feet of gas

The 62m-long life link is that the 1st purposeful bridge for life in South-east Asia. It is seen by motorists on the Bukit Timah throughway (BKE) concerning 600m north of Rifle vary Road.
The bridge, that was engineered only for animals, connects the 163ha Bukit Timah Nature Reserve to the Central structure Nature Reserve, that is Singapore’s largest at quite a pair of,000ha.

The two nature reserves were once connected, till the BKE was in-built 1986.

Close to thirty years later, the association between the 2 has been revived.

To find out if animals area unit victimization the eco-link, camera traps were came upon in each nature reserves and also the link to observe the animals there. The cameras, that go with motion sensors, area unit triggered once animals move past them.

Animals just like the placental, civet and squirrels are caught on the cameras placed on the link.

For a couple of year currently, eight camera traps on the life crossing have recorded footage of pangolins and alternative animals traversing the eco-link.

Although the precise range of crossings isn't identified, a minimum of one placental crossing has been noticed a month since Gregorian calendar month 2014.
Other studies, victimization tagging and sound recordings, found that birds and loopy have additionally been victimization it.

Some winged animals would like the link to cross, life consultants say, because the six-lane BKE is simply too wide to ford even for those which might fly.

Now, humans may take a walk on the life link that was antecedently closed to the general public to minimise disturbance to the animals. within the 2 years since it absolutely was completed, the vegetation has big dense enough to mask occasional human incursions.

On Nov 21, 2015, the primary members of the general public were allowed a glimpse of the link on radio-controlled tours conducted by NParks.

found salvation from the Flood :

Scientists have found salvation from the Flood. the rise in water level within the oceans is leveled by increasing water storage onto land, aforementioned North American country researchers. The scientific results square measure printed within the journal Science.
A team of scientists from the University of California and NASA's reaction propulsion Laboratory, LED by John Rieger examined knowledge from Project GRACE satellites and compared them with the quantity of the world's melting glaciers. The observations coated the amount from 2002 to 2014.

In explicit, scientists dataset of satellite mission GRACE (Gravity Recovery and Climate Experiment) was investigated, c 2002 to 2014. The ensuing knowledge square measure compared with changes in ice mass mass.

found salvation from the Flood

It clothed  that the water coming into the world's oceans by melting glaciers, is absorbed by land. within the last 10 years, scientists believe the continents has been absorbed over three trillion of water, thereby swiftness down the two hundredth increase in world water level.

As Rieger noted continents during this case operate the principle of the sponge. The water soaks into the soil, accumulates within the cavities. If all the accumulated water to gather during a single body of water, it's in its size would be similar to Huron. this can be one amongst the North yankee lake. Its depth reaches 229 meters, and the area is 59.6 thousand square kilometers.

Climate march: yes, we should save the world. But not only 'for the children'
We don’t need to have children to feel morally obligated to act – our focus on future generations allows for political inaction, and communicates a philosophy of despair

Climate march: yes, we should save the world. But not only 'for the children'
Climate march: yes, we should save the world. But not only 'for the children'
On Sunday, climate groups around the world rallied attendees for a People’s Climate March. The event was the largest environmental protest event in history, with participants in 150 countries. The march I attended was as multigenerational as the marches social media allowed me to observe elsewhere. A common theme to many placards, pledges and speeches heard around the world was a plea to take climate action as a duty to “our children”. The Huffington Post published commentary which cited actual “motherlove” as a reason for participants to attend. But is it the best way to wrap our heads around such a complex ethical issue? This trope of parental responsibility permeates much of the political discourse of climate action – last week, UK Labour’s Ed Miliband spoke about “safeguarding the future for our children” in response to a climate report. His lesser opposite, Nick Clegg, has said that “we cannot mortgage our children’s future to climate change” . “As father, and as an American, I’m here to say we need to act,” said Obama. Even the Climate inactive Australian government has admitted that “managing the risks” of climate change “will have lasting consequences for our children”. I am a childless woman in her 30s, but I was marching. Childlessness does not abrogate one from political responsibility to the planet. In the era of climate change, consistent scientific data advises that facing impending environmental transformation is a collective responsibility because it will be a collective experience. Yet, as a childless adult, the messaging around the science of climate change suggests my exclusion from the political and activist task at hand. It is not the camp of professional fact-evading science-deniers doing this, for their opinions are impotent for lack of hard data. It’s actually many and diverse communicators across the campaigns for climate action whose vocabulary of moral argument eschews me.

I’m not the only person to have picked up on the use of this language. Public intellectual and activist Naomi Klein, whose book This Changes Everything: Capitalism and the Climate was released this month responded to an interviewer from Canadian publication Macleans with similar observations: Q: You actually felt isolated from the environmental movement when you were struggling to get pregnant. A: It drove me crazy – hanging around with environmentalists who were constantly talking about how we were doing this for our kids, and our grandchildren. I found it exclusionary … And really strange messaging too, as if we only care about the future for our kids! Obviously, decisions made to address climate change today will impact future generations – maybe even doom them. The issue here is not actually exclusionary language applied to the childless, but how that language intellectually facilitates climate inaction; Klein’s last statement is the crucial one. Campaigners have long targeted parental anxieties to mobilise political or consumer behaviour – but when it comes to direct action on climate change, appealing to the parental theme has failed.

Demonstrators gather for the People’s Climate March in New York City. Photograph: Brian Cahn/Zuma/Corbis
Consider: the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) was formed by the UN in 1988. The children born the year of its convocation are now 26 years old – and while the climate-campaign discourse continues about “the future for our children”, in the elapsed quarter-century world carbon emissions have actually increased by 61%. This is why language of climate action strategy from scientists has had to shift from “preventing” threat to “adapting” to a now inevitable change. Talking about climate change as a futuristic scenario “for our children” suits the present western political leadership because it implies individual responsibility for a collective problem and suggests that an impact can be deferred. The climate campaigners Klein mentioned are failing their project by reinforcing this discursive frame. Social policy discussion around climate change is but a can the political class has kicked down the road for at least 26 years. All that time, the road beneath everyone’s feet has been crumbling. Language, of course, is polyphonic. While the use of “our children” in climate change discourse euphemises a political inaction, it simultaneously communicates a philosophy of despair. Communicating threats to the existence of those who’ll inherit our cultural achievements removes from humanity its solitary guarantee of immortality. Author PD James’s novel Children of Men got to the heart of this, depicting a dystopia where the decline of humanity as a biological entity entailed its intellectual and spiritual withering, too; a sense of meaning in our lives is to a large degree contingent on the assumption that our works and deeds will continue. The result of climate inaction threatening our sense of meaning has provoked what Klein’s book bluntly names an “existential crisis for the human species”.

The evidence here is not merely scientific, but social. Philosophers such as Eugene Thacker have identified the cultural return of nihilism – Jay-Z was seen flaunting a jacket referencing his book, In the Dust of this Planet. True Detective’s main protagonist, a fatalist cop with Thackeresque ideas, has a cult popularity. The enormously popular Game of Thrones has thrived on a thematic maxim that “no one is safe”, and that its audience continues to grow may indicate that rippling beneath political inaction on climate change is a growing social realisation that neither are we. Pop culture is once again attuning to anxieties about climate catastrophe, and channelling a weltgeist of powerlessness and despair. These cultural phenomenon accord to Klein’s observation: “Even when people say they don’t care, you scratch the surface, and there is terror.” Klein’s book is an immediate action plan. “One of the ways in which we are screwed is that a lot of people have come to the conclusion that we are, and therefore it’s not even worth trying,” she told Macleans, but she maintains that action can yet “grab the wheel and swerve” from catastrophe.

The climate march in Paris. Photograph: Tom Craig/Demotix/Corbis
The climate march in Paris. Photograph: Tom Craig/Demotix/Corbis
This “swerve” requires the political class accede to immediate strategies for climate mitigation and survival. This is only going to occur if the climate campaigns can inspire a moral imperative for radical, immediate engagement in the policy process, expounding the value that it’s not for the good of our children’s future that we should take action, but because immediate action of itself is good. The nihilistic terror presenting with cultural symptoms has a cure, and it’s some old-school ethics with the question of duty “to whom?” clearly resolved. Duty here is not to kings, gods, “our children”, or the inherited social structures that have led us to environmental crisis. It’s to the threatened reality faced by human life on earth.

Gil Stern place it accurately in "Man could be a advanced being , he makes deserts bloom and lakes die . " Mr. Stern on no account attempting to sketch a heart lifting state of affairs here . Neither she poses as a fancy on behalf of me to hesitate for long, particularly within the wake of the approach of the globe Day water 2013! Like several precedents, it'll conjointly come back and go. There may well be several things that water activists and bloggers do at once at this moment. simply to create North American nation all aware shimmering disaster within the cozy outside , particularly the pollution of water or perhaps considerations regarding water management worldwide . and that they face instead is nothing but pure casual perspective to North American nation. i'm wondering if these activists and bloggers complain regarding the "hangover of World water Day ." do they attempting to ignore the sting that comes however we tend to attempt to deal with the disaster management of water or perhaps our lack of interest in environmental friendly merchandise ? Do they concern our actions as powerfully as we tend to area unit oblivious to it? as a result of generally it looks the issues area unit nearly unbeatable . But anyway , they recover and bounce simply absolutely to air track once more.
World Water Day

Frankly, I 'm attempting to write down one thing stirring, exciting and putting here that keep on with North American nation. however it'll not serve the aim within the gift state of affairs . Citing a posting on the globe Water Day last year, "Education is sweet, however concrete measures globally is far tougher. as a result of per annum , it looks that things remains an equivalent desperate ... or worse. " for many of it , the globe Water Day has not received its justifiable share ought to be allotted . this can be not as famed because the January 1 Day , or as sentimental day or business as day. therefore however regarding beginning with the fundamentals.
World Water Day : Agenda twenty one

March twenty two was declared World Water Day , conjointly called the globe Water Day . Agenda twenty one could be a world action arrange for areas wherever human activities will have an effect on the atmosphere. it had been adopted at the United Nations Conference on atmosphere and Development in First State Janeiro|Rio|city|metropolis|urban center} de Janeiro , Brazil, in June 1992. Agenda twenty one suggested numerous measures, together with the creation of the globe Water Day . General Assembly of the world organisation adopted a resolution Gregorian calendar month twenty two, 1992 , declaring March twenty two at the globe Water Day per annum.
The first World Water Day was discovered in 1993. Countries were inspired to develop activities to spotlight native water wants. the aim of World Water Day is to market management activities of unpolluted and safe water worldwide and gain the support of the world organisation Recommendations on the matter of pollution and management procedures acceptable water to implement . Each year, a UN agency was chosen to steer the promotion and coordination of pollution addressal water activities and water management for the globe Water Day .
International Year of Water Cooperation
In Gregorian calendar month 2010, following the proposal created by Republic of Tajikistan and given by a gaggle of nations , the overall Assembly declared 2013 the International Year of Water Cooperation of the United Nations. The year is semiconductor diode by UNESCO due to the distinctive multidisciplinary approach of the Organization , which mixes natural and social sciences , education , culture and communication . Given the intrinsic nature of water as a universal cross component , the International Year of United Nations cooperation water naturally kiss and bit on completely different aspects , like pollution , the method water management should be custom-made to the globe.
What they are doing ( typically )

Turning off water whereas brushing , can save to eight gallons of water per day per person .

Water your garden within the morning : this can cut back water wastage and conjointly promote healthy flora . Cooler air prevents excessive evaporation of the morning , throughout the center of the day .

Use environmentally friendly merchandise : attempt switch to those. Do your half for Mother Earth .
Use a automobile wash professional : business automobile washes use water additional with efficiency , usually mistreatment forty five gallons of water per automobile. Whereas, washers home use somewhere between eighty and a hundred and forty gallons.

Fix the leak : A faulty regulator wastes 3 gallons of water per day , reports the U.S. earth science Survey. therefore don't ignore that leaky regulator or pipe joint unseaworthy . each drop counts .
Check your water footprint : Our measures of individual water footprint water we tend to use in our daily tasks. It conjointly includes the water that goes into the assembly of the items we tend to use on a usual , as our dirty jeans, or perhaps the food we tend to eat. By the way, did you recognize that a combine of blue jeans usually uses over 3000 liters of water ?

To Predict Global Climate Change Look to the Sun

When planning each day, which is around the sun. The sun determines our activities planned during the day and darkness each night. The changing seasons are a function of the number of hours of sunlight. Therefore, if the sun is a factor in our lives every day, why not even consider the sun as a catalyst for climate change in the future?

The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) has been looking in the wrong place for the cause of global climate change. IT'S global projections on climate change do not include the influence of the sun. As a result, computer-generated model, which predicts a one degree Fahrenheit increase in global temperature in each decade of this century due to human-emitted carbon dioxide gas, is in drastic need of repair.

The truth is that it is becoming clearer every day that passes that global climate change is a function of the Sun and not in terms of increased human emissions of CO2. The fact is that global temperatures have not risen in the last ten years, since 1998, even with a significant increase in global CO2. They also consider that the first half of this year (2008) was actually the coolest of the past five years, according to the World Meteorological Organization (WMO).

Therefore, the current trend in global temperature is getting colder, not hot, despite the continued increase in CO2. Of course, the fact that the United Nations is that, in all likelihood, the extent of their error is soon about to get much worse. Since we are looking at the wrong catalyst of global climate change, you really have no idea what will happen next. For more adequately predict global temperatures over the coming decades, the IPCC should look at the sun's activity.

In fact, the study of the Sun is exactly what the astrophysicist Dr. Willie Soon, a researcher at the Harvard Smithsonian Center for Astrophysics in Cambridge, Massachusetts, has been doing for years. Dr. Soon has identified a clear relationship between solar activity as indicated by its magnetic activity and temperature variations in the Arctic and Greenland during a period of about 130 years.

Dr. Soon chose this area for study because it has a good record of temperature and is an area sensitive to climate change, so that the signal from any climatic influence one should be easier to detect. It also says that you can point to a physical mechanism in ocean circulation that connects the sun's influence on the temperature in the region.

Dr. Soon reviewed the findings of recent research work as follows: "The global temperature change can be attributed to variations in solar energy production, not human emissions of carbon dioxide."

He continues: "When the sun is slightly brighter, which means give more light to the Earth system, warming temperatures in the Arctic. Upon cooling we observed in the Arctic from 1940 to the 1970s, guess what the sun is doing? attenuation is actually slightly, very slightly. then guess what happened after 1970? The sun shines again. "

Meanwhile, a new research of the Astronomical Society of Australia also identifies the sun as the catalyst of global climate change. The paper argues that the level of activity on the Sun will significantly diminish sometime in the next decade and remain low for about 20-30 years. On each occasion that the Sun has done this in the past the world's average temperature has dropped to 1-2 degrees C.

Of course, all this recent research confirms earlier findings only on Sun's role in global climate change. Consider that the Sun's influence on the long-term cooling and warming the planet was discovered by the Danish Meteorological Institute in 1991. The Institute released a study using data that went back centuries that showed that global temperatures closely followed solar cycles.

Then, years later, a Hoover Institution study examined the same historical data and came to a similar conclusion. "The effects of solar activity and volcanoes are impossible to miss. Temperatures fluctuated exactly as expected, and the pattern was so clear that, statistically, the probability that the correlation by chance that one of every 100" according to Hoover fellow Bruce Berkowitz.

While the political world and the United Nations to follow the wrong approach on global warming man made CO2 emissions, function tests of the sun 's in global climate change continues to grow.

So no surprise that to predict global climate change in the coming decades should look at the sun, as we do in the preparation of each calendar day.

global climat change

As is the case with many ecological matters nowadays, climate change is a hot topic for debate. Some will argue that the global climate is changing as a matter of natural course while others will point an accusing finger at humankind as the culprit leading to Earth's rising atmospheric temperature. Whichever argument you side with, there can be no debate that the symptoms of a slowly rising fever have begun to show, especially in recent decades. Whether these climbing temperatures are a result of ordinary natural mechanisms or of human irresponsibility does not need to be debated; we need to look at what climate change is, how quickly it is advancing, and what we can do to alleviate the problem.
Climate change is often used interchangeably with global warming. This is not completely accurate, however, because climate change refers to a change in average statistical data over prolonged periods of time regardless of what caused it. Global warming is usually reserved to acknowledge climate changes brought on directly or indirectly by human activities. Again, we are not here to debate the causes, but to recognize certain aspects of the issue.
When all of us here on Earth are better versed in the machinations behind our gradually rising average temperatures, we can become more conscious of our contributions to climate change and more effectively alter our habits to lessen our own impact. For example, solar output is one possible explanation for the increased temperatures that lead to climate change. The sun emits much more radiation today than it did 3 to 4 billion years ago. The sun is cyclical in the amount of radiation it gives off, leading to slight changes in climate every so often. One hypothesis as to the varying amount of radiation that reaches the earth is changing concentrations of greenhouse gases in the atmosphere. Billions of years ago, there was a larger concentration of these gases, allowing less radiation through, but trapping what did pass into the lower atmosphere. Temperatures rose and fell depending on the quantity of solar radiation remaining in the atmosphere. Gradually, these greenhouse gases lessened in concentration and a sort of balance was achieved. Today, for whatever reasons, the gases have increased in accumulation again, leading several scientific bodies to conclude that they are playing a role in climate change.
It doesn't matter if humans are responsible or not, we can make the choice to do our part by not exacerbating the problem. One large change we can make is to seek alternative methods for powering our homes and vehicles. Solar cells, fuel cells, wind power, and wave power are just some of the renewable energy sources we can adopt to limit our release of greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. Think about it. If the sun is simply experiencing another of its natural cycles and raising Earth's average temperature, then that is just the way it goes. But why should we accelerate the process if we don't have to? Imagine the amount of carbon-based exhaust that would be eliminated if homes didn't rely on electricity sources that spewed out fumes as a result of spinning turbines powered by petroleum fuels. Vehicles equipped with fuel cells that simply give off water as a by-product add absolutely no greenhouse gases to the atmosphere. There is still a lack of clear cut evidence that humans are the sole contributors to Earth's climate change, but we can erase that possibility altogether by changing the way our power needs are met.
Another possible explanation for climate change is the increased amount of aerosols in the atmosphere. Aerosols are tiny solid or liquid particles that remain in the atmosphere. It is not completely understood how much of an impact they currently have on climate change, but it is known that aerosols absorb and concentrate solar radiation. Volcanoes, vegetation, sea spray, and forest fires are all known to contribute aerosols to the atmosphere. Human creations such as vehicle exhaust and industrial plants do as well. These anthropogenic aerosols account for about 10% of those currently found in the atmosphere. Once again, there is no way to accurately measure just how much of an impact anthropogenic aerosols have on climate change, but there is no reason to continue to scatter particles that are known to have a greenhouse effect into the air. Here is yet another case in which using the renewable energy of the sun, wind, and water would greatly reduce the amount of stress we place on the atmosphere to sustain temperatures that allow for life.
Regardless of what is leading to climate change, it is happening. Is it the ordinary path of life on Earth or is humanity burdening the atmosphere with elements detrimental to its function? Whatever the answer, we can do our part to combat climate change by changing our attitudes and habits and adopt renewable energy as the first step in getting back on track.

Celebrities are using their fame to call attention to global warming. Famous people are using their knowledge of film-making to create documentaries on the subject. Others are simply using their influence try to slow down or stop global warming.
A project called Global Cool is designed to help people become more knowledgeable about how their actions can hurt or help Earth's climate. The venture's lofty goal is to get one billion people to lower the levels of carbon emissions they put into the environment. Orlando Bloom, Josh Hartnett, Leonardo DiCaprio, and Pink are several of the celebrities involved with this initiative. Some bands have also joined Global Cool.
Leonardo DiCaprio is another celebrity involved with the movement to stop global warming. He has a website devoted to the topic. On it, you can view two films on which DiCaprio has worked. One is called Water Planet, and the other simply Global Warming. DiCaprio has worked on another documentary addressing atmospheric heating and Earth's eleventh hour, which details the problems and puts forth innovative solutions. The actor also started the Leonardo DiCaprio Foundation in 1998. Its purpose is to influence people to become involved in environmentally friendly organizations. The foundation also addresses the root causes of global warming such as fossil fuels and greenhouse gas emissions.
Other actors are getting involved in movement to stop global warming, too. Brad Pitt is the narrator of a series on green architecture. The shows discuss ways to build in a way that is eco-friendly. Another documentary features Keanu Reeves and Alannis Morrisett as narrators. The film, entitled The Great Warming, is all about the climatic changes of the past half century. Earth Day has always been a magnet for celebrity attention. As more is known about global warming, the list of celebrities speaking out about it on Earth Day becomes even more impressive.
Al Gore, Clinton's former Vice President who had presidential aspirations of his own, has earned a certain amount of celebrity with the release of his movie, An Inconvenient Truth. With this popular film, Gore entered the limelight in a new way, using his status and fame to influence people to join the cause of planetary preservation.
Perhaps the most powerful environmental activist on the scene today is producer Laurie David. She is the wife of actor Larry David of Curb Your Enthusiasm. She has lobbied for governmental change, and she started organizing the Stop Global Warming Virtual March to rally support among everyday people. So far she has encouraged hundreds of thousands of people to join her.
When celebrities get involved in popular causes, it is difficult to know whether they are seeking attention for themselves or if they are truly concerned about the issue. Probably there are those whose motives are not quite pure. Celebrities who live by the environmental principles they advocate can be a good influence for others to follow their example.

Global Climate Change

Throughout history, our planet has gone through major climate fluctuations from relatively warm to relatively cold periods. Climate change is actually not something new in our planet, but today we are experiencing an exceedingly fast change in our climate. Like never before, our oceans are heating up fast, glaciers melting at a much quicker rate, and bizarre diseases spreading like wild fire in all corners of the globe. All these are physical evidences of climate change.
It's heartbreaking to know that the pristine beaches and magnificent landscape of Maldives may soon be wiped off the planet if climate change is to persist. And it's even more depressing to know that people in Alaska have to suffer from a year round spruce bark beetle infestation which leaves huge forest areas barren.
So, what's there to do when it's our life and home that is threatened? Do we wait for major disasters to annihilate a third of our planet before making a move? Do we still need to do instant people search to determine if it's time yet to make a move? Whether we like it or not, climate change is here and its effect is coming more and more in focus each year. The call of duty has to be answered today, and not a day later, before the true intensity of climate change is unleashed all over the world.
Unfortunately, there is no single and abrupt action that generates immediate result that will solve the problem. It would take years before the effects of climate change are reversed, that is, if it's not yet too late. But even the simple and smallest changes that can be done today can already immensely contribute to solving the problem. These can include:
Reducing energy consumption. Industries are the highest consumers of energy. Perhaps by increasing taxes on fossil fuel, some of these companies would work on reducing their energy consumption.
• Save on electricity. Turn off lights when not used. Replace your bulbs with compact fluorescent bulbs as they are brighter and deliver longer bulb life.
• Develop renewable energies such as biofuels, wind turbines, solar heating panels, and geothermal energy.
• Conserve water. Many water resources are destroyed due to global warming. So, make the most of the water we have today. As much as possible reuse water and teach everyone not to waste water.
• Drive electric cars. Gas prices are continuously rising these days, so it would be more practical to drive an electric car. Aside from being fuel efficient and environment friendly, these cars offer the same luxury and convenience traditional cars provide.
There's no denying climate change is here. Some may even think that the extremely threatening maladies happening today are a prelude to the apocalypse, which by the way remains a prediction until today. So, don't celebrate yet and expect that the first ones removed from this planet are those with criminal background. If ever apocalypse happens, it will be survival of the fittest. So, let's heed the call of the environment to free her from prison of total pollution and disorder.

Global Climate Changes - How Can Man Avoid Extinction?
The current global climatic changes are a source of serious worry to mankind. Life on earth is becoming increasingly threatened with extinction as a result of damaging changes in the earth's climate. Many have not come to the realization that it is possible for man to go extinct. But there are evidences in the past and even today that extinction is not a myth.
Paleogeological discoveries show that certain flora and fauna species have gone extinct in the past. Conspicuous among them are the dinosaurs. The dinosaur extinction theories have it that it was caused by abrupt, harsh and sustain climatic changes to which this animal species could not adapt to.
Today, our climate is noticing very serious changes. Changes that are inimical to the continuous existence of man. Melting of the polar ice, heavily polluted atmosphere and water bodies, serious depletion of forests resources, and therefore alteration of the carbon oxide:oxygen balance, changes in rainfall pattern with some areas getting too much and others getting almost none. These are caused mainly by human activities - aggressive industrialization, urbanization, intensive agriculture, poor waste management techniques and other environmental-unfriendly practices.
At present, people in some major cities of the world do not have the privilege of a clean air or water. People wear gas masks during the day in heavily industrialized cities. China is an example. With time if not watched, we might not have any air to breathe.
To Avoid Extinction
We therefore need to have a rethink. We need to slow down and watch our steps in everything we do - our policies, development plans, energy utilization, daily living and waste generation pattern and disposal methods.
To avoid extinction man must begin to place the environment first in everything he does. Proper environment impact assessment must be carried out before any project is executed. Also, concerted effort must be made by government and industrialists to cut down on the emission of polluting gases to tolerable levels. Internationally agreed standards for emissions and waste discharges from industries must be kept to.
Government should formulate policies that would encourage green living and environment conservation and preservation. Industries whose activities pollute the environment should be made to pay adequately for its clean up and restoration through a functional Polluter-Pay-Policy.
People should adopt climate -friendly lifestyle. For instance, aerosol-based air freshener and insecticides should be avoided. Garbage and rubbishes should not be burnt in the open but rather should be property incinerated if at all it should be.
Adopting a green living ideology is the way cut, it would cut-down most drastically the impact of human activities on our climatic and so ensure the continuous existence of man, Let us act today to secure our climate. A threaten climate means a threaten population.

Looking Beyond Global Climate Change

In the debate over global warming, the reasoning of those who oppose taking action usually centers on accuracy of the science. However, regardless of how one looks at the science, there still is reason for concern as well as reasons everyone should want to take action even if they are not convinced by the evidence.
While there is no way to perfectly measure past temperatures and levels of greenhouse gasses in the atmosphere, all the best evidence is pretty consistent and pointing to in the same direction. However, lets put that all aside and look at other reasons why the most prudent and logical thinking does point to taking action now.
There are some things that everyone should be in agreement on:
First, people should be aware that the greenhouse effect itself is something there is absolutely zero scientific debate on. Certain gases most certainly trap heat in the atmosphere. Without this effect, global temperatures would be much lower and life as we know it could not exist. The only point in debate is if human activity is increasing the quantity of these gases enough to effect global temperatures.
Also, many people assume that the natural state of world temperatures is rather constant. However, when we look at the geologic record, nothing could be further from the truth. Global temperatures are certainly not written in stone and in fact have varied from the very hot to global ice ages over the history of the planet.
Finally, human beings clearly do dump massive amounts of greenhouse gasses into the atmosphere, and human activity has reduced the capacity of the planet to absorb these gasses by causing advancing deserts and other environmental problems. While some argue that human activity is small compared to the size of the earth and natural forces, it is something that compounds daily.
With these facts in mind, even if one is not convinced by the evidence given by the scientists to prove global warming, is this not this at least a cause for concern? We know that the global warming is real, that the climate fluctuates and they human activity is changing the atmosphere at least to an extent. Even if it cannot be absolutely proven it is enough to change global climate, it cannot be proven it is not either.
Furthermore, there are other reasons to take action even if global climate change could be taken completely out of the equation. Fossils fuels are from fossils and will run out in a relatively short period of time, even if the world does not experience a major crisis with oil soon as some fear. Also, much of the money spent on fossil fuels goes to corrupt, oppressive regimes and it often ends up in the hands of terrorists and others that most people do not want to finance.
By moving toward energy conservation and alternatives to fossil fuels now, we can start moving towards a future where clean energy can be produced at home with an economy that is much more efficient. This should be something that everyone apart from those directly profiting from oil should support. The policies needed to combat climate changed would have positive benefits for humanity that go well beyond the current debate.
Regardless of personal thoughts about global warming, all humanity should have the goal of moving toward a future of more sustainable, clean energy and away from fossil fuels and all their problems.
